pants off dance off

Big day, ears, big day.  50 Shades of Grey soundtrack is available in iTunes (and Spotify…and probably by now, Youtube).  It’s out just in time for the 14th for all of you (Valentine) horndogs and (movie) super fans.  Say what you will about the book (and eventually about the film), but how can you not dig this compilation of songs with a roster that features Annie Lennox (who wowed us all at the Grammys on Sunday), The Weeknd (who oozes sex), rookie and cool girl Jessie Ware, Ellie, B, Sia, Stones, Awol, Frank Sinatra (wut.)?  Yes, I just listed practically all of the artists, but hey, you’ll understand why when you play this playlist through February.  What’s good JT?

Elastic Heart

I know j already posted about this song here, but it’s so good I need to make sure all of you listened to it when she told you to.  The sheer brilliance behind this song is not fair.  Between the combination of amazing artists and beautiful lyrics, it’s by far my favorite song on this soundtrack.  I’ve always been a huge fan of Sia and her hauntingly beautiful sound, which this song captures so perfectly.  Her unique and powerful vocals along with The Weeknd’s Abel Tesfaye create this elegant, yet painful song.  Let’s not forget about the epic beat by Diplo…who I’m also mildly obsessed with.

Moral of the story here?  This song is unfairly good.  Like it’s SO good, it’s not fair to anyone else making music these days.  It’s.  Just.  Not.  Fair.  a

GREAT Gatsby

Expect a lot of posts from this soundtrack because it is literally the best thing I’ve heard in a while.  I shared the teaser a while ago, but this my friends is a damn game changer.  Not only is it a gathering of absolute all-stars, but each artist keeps and holds true to the sound that makes them so great.  Here are some examples:

This is actually my favorite song from the album.  Jack White MURDERS this and my good lord is it 100% Jack White:

Haunting and beautiful, Andre 3000 and Beyonce nail this:

And this is so good, I still can’t believe it’s real:

I Am Supposed To Be At A Gatsby Party

So I am going to give you all fair warning:  I am obsessed with “The Great Gatsby.”  It is one of my most favorite books of all time.

Here’s your next warning: I’m almost completely convinced I was born into the wrong time era.  I’m pretty sure I was supposed to be IN this time period, the 1920s, with Gatsby at all his swanky parties and wearing unbelievable jewelry.  It’s bordering on unhealthy.

I’m also planning on going to the movie in costume.  Say I won’t.

NOW.  Let’s just discuss the absolute EPIC-NESS of this soundtrack.  First and foremost, Jay-Z produced the ever loving life out of it and the lineup of artists on it will make you so excited you can’t even see straight.

Second: the majority of these artists have appeared somewhere, sometime on PB&Jams.  Did j, c and i essentially  predict one of the best soundtracks of all time to one of the soon to be best movies of all time?  Probably.  All in a day’s work, people.

Third: I don’t want to say I told you so, but I told you so. What did I tell you?  THAT I AM SUPPOSED TO BE AT A SWANKY PARTY WEARING SOME SICK DRESS AND FILTHY AMOUNTS OF DIAMONDS AND PEARLS EVERYWHERE.

I digress.

This sneak peak of the soundtrack will get you all sorts of happy and put you exactly where you need to be: at a damn good swanky-ass “roaring twenties” party.  This soundtrack takes you all the way back to this time period while channeling the modern party scene of today.  How do they do it?  It’s goddamn magic.  And Jay-Z.

Some favorites?  Emeli Sandé, Jack White, xx and Sia.

Check it out and get excited, peeps.  What will I be doing to prepare?  So glad you asked!  I’ll be sipping on Bourbon, wearing flapper dresses, practicing my dancing and classy flirtation with men.  Who am I kidding, I’ll read the book again and cry because I’m nostalgic for a time period.  Lord help me, somebody has toa

P.S. I realize I haven’t even touched on the casting for this film.  That is all saved for another post when I can catch my breath over this soundtrack.

overlooked

Before Sandy swept the East Coast, I enjoyed two very lazy days on the couch.  One being so lazy that I watched Hangover 2 for the fourth time.  Although it still gets me laughing, I can’t believe that it took me four times to realize that there are some pretty good songs on the soundtrack.  Of course there are the Black Eyed Peas, Deadmou5, etc., but the following were a pleasant and comical surprise among the techno pop tracks.

Adele should play the Energizer Bunny; she keeps going and going and going with hit after hit.  Her latest project is “Skyfall,” the official song for the new James Bond film, Skyfall.  With arguably the most badass Bond girls to date in “Skyfall,” Adele fits comfortably among the crew.

Although Adele has quite the competition, “Skyfall” could also be at the top list of all the other Bond songs.  The list includes “Another Way to Die” by Alicia Keys featuring Jack White for Quantum of Solace, “Die Another Day” by Madonna, “Diamonds Are Forever” by Shirley Bassey (and Goldfinger), “The World is Not Enough” by Garbage, “Tomorrow Never Dies” by Sheryl Crow, and others by Chris Cornell, Nancy Sinatra, Duran Duran, Paul McCartney, etc.
