Girl Power

Beyonce and Nicki remix “Flawless.” I feel like we all should have seen this coming. Everyone is buzzing about it because B addresses the “elevator brawl” in the song:

“We escalatin’, up in this bitch like elevators
Of course sometimes shit goes down when there’s a billion dollars on an elevator”

Still a little ambiguous but take a listen for yourself.

P.S. I don’t believe the rumors. c.

black tattoo

So here’s a bit of music gossip for you:
Remember the tattooed heart-throb I gushed about a few months ago?  To refresh your memory, that heart-throb is Bradley Soileau, a model, dj, and all-around cocky A.H.  Apparently he is keen on publicly bashing the likes of Nicki Minaj and Jeffree Star.  He plays the boyfriend in Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Jeans” and “Born to Die” videos.  In real life, he plays the role of husband to “gangster rock” singer Porcelain Black (Alaina Beaton).  She may get cred for working with Lil’ Wayne, but after watching her video, you’ll agree with me that Soileau should have stayed trapped inside Lana’s “Blue Jeans”…

*note: you should probably stop listening after :58.

VMA

I have mixed emotions of this years VMAs. I have watched this MTV special since I can remember and with each passing year it seems like the music and performances get raunchier and more provocative which makes me hope that the audience is getting older. I am a Ri Ri fan but do not necessarily support that upon turning on the VMAs we hear “Suck my cockiness..like my persuasion.”  Although the song is admittedly catchy there are many more songs that she could have killed on stage. Lil Wayne and 2Chains executed a “performance” which I thought was more like yelling and jumping—I fast forwarded through their nonsense–and therefore I have no more description.

My favorite performance of the night was by far Alicia Keys and Nicki Minaj’s new song “Girl on Fire.” They both killed it per usual but what made this performance exceptionally unique was Gabby Douglas (all-around gold medalist in woman’s gymnastics) flipping around on stage. This song sends a positive message and the fact that they included this role model for so many young girls on stage with them was pretty amazing. c.

she’s no stupid hoe.

Nicki. Roman. Barb. Whatever you decide to call her, you cannot deny that she is one bad betch. “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” was released in the beginning of April and I have been exploring the tracks. There are many differences between “Pink Friday” and her newest drop but as she explained in an interview before the release “i want to make songs people can dance to.” Well mission accomplished Nicki. You can find me jamming out in peaches (my little toyota echo)on the way to school daily. However, I can honestly say I did not skip a track on “Pink Friday” i know every song. word. for. word. This album is a little different–there are some songs that I won’t put on repeat–but she gives us a little bit of everything.

The beginning of the CD is more “hard core rap” with tracks with Cam’ron, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz?, Lil Wayne, Nas, Drake and Young Jeezy. Nobody can argue that is badass, I bet some of these hard rappers were begging to drop a line on her tracks (gansta right).

She transitions into her slower songs and dance beatz with two “love” songs “Right By My Side” featuring Chris Brown and “Sex in the Lounge” featuring Lil Wayne and Bobby Valentino. Not a fan of Chris Brown but I like her track with him–call me a hopeless romantic.

Next come some of my dance favorites–“Starships,” “Pound the Alarm,” “Whip it,” “Automatic,” etc. guaranteed to make you move your feet or your shake your “Ass, Ass, Ass, Ass…”

I posted “Marilyn Monroe” illegally a couple months ago in anticipation for this album and especially this track. This song is vulnerable, reminds me a little of “Dear Old Nicki” from “Pink Friday.” “If you can’t handle my worst, you ain’t gettin my best,” she uses “cliche” quotes that everyone knows Marilyn by but somehow it really works, probably because Nicki relates. This song is really good and really worth a listen, or two, or three. “Young Forever” is also a good track, the beat caught me from the second I heard it–somewhat of a slow jam but with an awesome beat.

OKAY. two more. (i could talk about them all i hope you know–cough–“fire burns”–cough)

“Gun Shot” featuring Beanie Man. I love Beanie Man and he gives a little bit of an island vibe to this track. Such a summertime song.

Last but not least…”Stupid Hoe” Nicki is not one because when its all said and done I think she killed it on this album.

Did i mention she is coming to St. Louis on July 30th? You bet your  pj and j  i will be there.

nicki anticipation

“That’s Nicki Minaj”  (in my best Sophia Grace voice). Nicki Minaj is coming out with her second album “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” on April 3rd–and so the countdown begins. She is performing a new song off the album at the Grammys this weekend “Romans Holiday” so I will have my eyes and ears peeled for that one. As for now here is a little gem I found that was just released. I’m not sure if it will be on the album but it is worth listening to if you want a little dose of some Nicki. “Marilyn Monroe”c.
