good kind of country

I may never hear the end of this because it’s *country*, but this isn’t really country, anyway.  Country, blues, soul, R&B, pop–who cares–watch and listen to this and every one of you will be smirking like the man at 6:15.  Lord have mercy; I am down with this whole CMA situation if JT is on stage.

pants off dance off

Big day, ears, big day.  50 Shades of Grey soundtrack is available in iTunes (and Spotify…and probably by now, Youtube).  It’s out just in time for the 14th for all of you (Valentine) horndogs and (movie) super fans.  Say what you will about the book (and eventually about the film), but how can you not dig this compilation of songs with a roster that features Annie Lennox (who wowed us all at the Grammys on Sunday), The Weeknd (who oozes sex), rookie and cool girl Jessie Ware, Ellie, B, Sia, Stones, Awol, Frank Sinatra (wut.)?  Yes, I just listed practically all of the artists, but hey, you’ll understand why when you play this playlist through February.  What’s good JT?

return of the max

I guess Maxwell’s got it together.  Although the Hoboken, NJ music venue/drinking establishment remains set on closing its doors after its farewell party on July 31, 2013, Maxwell’s was serving up a whole lot of business yesterday night when JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE showed up.  JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE people.  The man after everyone’s hearts performed just one song, “Take Back the Night“, for an upcoming Target commercial to the lucky 150 people who were first to enter the venue.  Maybe Target can give us a little more and convince Maxwell’s to stay open for more surprise visits from people like JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE?

Ryan Gosling, everyone.

I actually could leave you with this photo, and this photo alone, because it just speaks to you…am I right?

But I won’t.  I’ll make you drool even more because Ryan Gosling sings.  Ryan Gosling sings words that were dipped in gold by the hands of angels.  Afterall, he was in The Mickey Mouse Club with that guy Justin Timberlake.

Proof (at 1:45):

And remember when he serenaded us Michelle Williams in Blue Valentine?

Well, ladies and gentleladies, that was the real Ryan Gosling.

And his band, Dead Man’s Bones, is real.  It’s real enough to sound like a mixture of The Doors, Arcade Fire, and something I can’t put my figure on quite yet.  Oh, I know, it’s the sound of those words being dipped in gold by the hands of angels.

Proof (at the whole beautiful thing):

And as if you needed something a little more Ryan Gosling, this pretty much sums up how a, c, and I (and any other human being for that matter) feel about God Ryan Golsing.

memphis soul

Untitled 2

Soul is in da house!

PBS’s “In Performance at the White House: Memphis Soul” features the Alabama Shakes, William Bell, Steve Cropper, Eddie Floyd, Ben Harper, Cyndi Lauper, Joshua Ledet, Sam Moore, Charlie Musslewhite, Queen Latifa, Mavis Staples, Justin Timberlake, Booker T Jones.  It’s nice to see those collars loosen up and those heads bopping around the East Room.

Watch the hour-long show here.
