GREAT Gatsby

Expect a lot of posts from this soundtrack because it is literally the best thing I’ve heard in a while.  I shared the teaser a while ago, but this my friends is a damn game changer.  Not only is it a gathering of absolute all-stars, but each artist keeps and holds true to the sound that makes them so great.  Here are some examples:

This is actually my favorite song from the album.  Jack White MURDERS this and my good lord is it 100% Jack White:

Haunting and beautiful, Andre 3000 and Beyonce nail this:

And this is so good, I still can’t believe it’s real:

I Am Supposed To Be At A Gatsby Party

So I am going to give you all fair warning:  I am obsessed with “The Great Gatsby.”  It is one of my most favorite books of all time.

Here’s your next warning: I’m almost completely convinced I was born into the wrong time era.  I’m pretty sure I was supposed to be IN this time period, the 1920s, with Gatsby at all his swanky parties and wearing unbelievable jewelry.  It’s bordering on unhealthy.

I’m also planning on going to the movie in costume.  Say I won’t.

NOW.  Let’s just discuss the absolute EPIC-NESS of this soundtrack.  First and foremost, Jay-Z produced the ever loving life out of it and the lineup of artists on it will make you so excited you can’t even see straight.

Second: the majority of these artists have appeared somewhere, sometime on PB&Jams.  Did j, c and i essentially  predict one of the best soundtracks of all time to one of the soon to be best movies of all time?  Probably.  All in a day’s work, people.

Third: I don’t want to say I told you so, but I told you so. What did I tell you?  THAT I AM SUPPOSED TO BE AT A SWANKY PARTY WEARING SOME SICK DRESS AND FILTHY AMOUNTS OF DIAMONDS AND PEARLS EVERYWHERE.

I digress.

This sneak peak of the soundtrack will get you all sorts of happy and put you exactly where you need to be: at a damn good swanky-ass “roaring twenties” party.  This soundtrack takes you all the way back to this time period while channeling the modern party scene of today.  How do they do it?  It’s goddamn magic.  And Jay-Z.

Some favorites?  Emeli Sandé, Jack White, xx and Sia.

Check it out and get excited, peeps.  What will I be doing to prepare?  So glad you asked!  I’ll be sipping on Bourbon, wearing flapper dresses, practicing my dancing and classy flirtation with men.  Who am I kidding, I’ll read the book again and cry because I’m nostalgic for a time period.  Lord help me, somebody has toa

P.S. I realize I haven’t even touched on the casting for this film.  That is all saved for another post when I can catch my breath over this soundtrack.

love is blindness

So what if it’s a U2 cover, Jack White destroys this track.  Not gonna lie, The Great Gatsby trailer totally led me to this.  Not sure about the movie, but totally sure about the song.

Blunderbuss

Jack White has gone solo and it works. White has always been an incredible artist, and the single from this album “Love Interruption” is a newly found favorite of mine. Tortured, depressing, emotional, the single embodies a twisted artist like White. Well I’m here to tell you, the rest of the album delivers. The rest of the tracks provide some variety, like “Freedom at 21.” The over all vibe from the album is vintage. He nails the Nashville sound with “Love Interruption” but the classic rock sound is eminent in “I Guess I Should Go to Sleep.”

I love the music, but I love his lyrics. I don’t think I can quite stress it enough: the man is a true artist. Please do yourself a favor and listen. Other tracks to feed your ears with: “Blunderbuss” and “I’m Shaking.”

In it’s entirety: I love it. a
