hungry lorde

Lorde is pulling a Jay (not mocking jay, but Jay-Z) and curating the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 1.  This is the first released song from the track, from none other than Lorde herself, who did so in celebratory fashion: Pure Heroine turned one on the 27th. Nom nom nom.

GREAT Gatsby

Expect a lot of posts from this soundtrack because it is literally the best thing I’ve heard in a while.  I shared the teaser a while ago, but this my friends is a damn game changer.  Not only is it a gathering of absolute all-stars, but each artist keeps and holds true to the sound that makes them so great.  Here are some examples:

This is actually my favorite song from the album.  Jack White MURDERS this and my good lord is it 100% Jack White:

Haunting and beautiful, Andre 3000 and Beyonce nail this:

And this is so good, I still can’t believe it’s real:

The xx Take on Gatsby

Beautiful.  Simply beautiful.  If you know the book, you know that there is a deep, dark undertone.  If anyone was going to convey that heartache and pain, the xx were exactly the band to do it.  They nailed every part of that feeling in this new song from the soundtrack.  a

I Am Supposed To Be At A Gatsby Party

So I am going to give you all fair warning:  I am obsessed with “The Great Gatsby.”  It is one of my most favorite books of all time.

Here’s your next warning: I’m almost completely convinced I was born into the wrong time era.  I’m pretty sure I was supposed to be IN this time period, the 1920s, with Gatsby at all his swanky parties and wearing unbelievable jewelry.  It’s bordering on unhealthy.

I’m also planning on going to the movie in costume.  Say I won’t.

NOW.  Let’s just discuss the absolute EPIC-NESS of this soundtrack.  First and foremost, Jay-Z produced the ever loving life out of it and the lineup of artists on it will make you so excited you can’t even see straight.

Second: the majority of these artists have appeared somewhere, sometime on PB&Jams.  Did j, c and i essentially  predict one of the best soundtracks of all time to one of the soon to be best movies of all time?  Probably.  All in a day’s work, people.

Third: I don’t want to say I told you so, but I told you so. What did I tell you?  THAT I AM SUPPOSED TO BE AT A SWANKY PARTY WEARING SOME SICK DRESS AND FILTHY AMOUNTS OF DIAMONDS AND PEARLS EVERYWHERE.

I digress.

This sneak peak of the soundtrack will get you all sorts of happy and put you exactly where you need to be: at a damn good swanky-ass “roaring twenties” party.  This soundtrack takes you all the way back to this time period while channeling the modern party scene of today.  How do they do it?  It’s goddamn magic.  And Jay-Z.

Some favorites?  Emeli Sandé, Jack White, xx and Sia.

Check it out and get excited, peeps.  What will I be doing to prepare?  So glad you asked!  I’ll be sipping on Bourbon, wearing flapper dresses, practicing my dancing and classy flirtation with men.  Who am I kidding, I’ll read the book again and cry because I’m nostalgic for a time period.  Lord help me, somebody has toa

P.S. I realize I haven’t even touched on the casting for this film.  That is all saved for another post when I can catch my breath over this soundtrack.
